CHENNAI: Malayalam's beloved actor Mammootty has taken a temporary break from acting after early signs of colon cancer were detected. Starting today, he will undergo radiation therapy at a leading private hospital in Chennai. However, medical experts who conducted his initial examinations have assured that there is no cause for concern, contrary to some rumors circulating on social media.
Mammootty was actively working on a big-budget film directed by Mahesh Narayanan, featuring a star-studded cast including Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, and Nayanthara. He has taken a short break from the shoot for his treatment. He intends to resume filming after completing radiation therapy. The necessity of further treatment, including chemotherapy, will be determined after medical assessments. If surgery is required, he is contemplating a trip to the United States for specialized medical consultation.
It is reported that his radiation sessions have been scheduled in a way that allows him to travel back and forth from his residence in Chennai to the hospital in Teynampet. Since the condition was detected early, doctors are optimistic that Mammootty will make a full recovery very soon. His family, including his wife Sulfath, son and actor Dulquer Salmaan, daughter Surumi, son-in-law Dr. Muhammad Rehan Sayeed, and other close relatives, are by his side for support.
