The last-minute mix-up to the release of ‘L2 Empuraan’ raised eyebrows across the industry. Movie production giants Lyca sold their rights to Gokulam to make a seemingly unpleasant exit from their maiden Malayalam project.
Lyca through films like ‘Vada Chennai’, ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’, ‘Kolamavu Kokila’, and Don’ had made a mark in the industry and wielded huge sway across Kollywood. And now, discussions are ongoing in forums and online space about the mighty kingdom of Lyca falling to pieces. According to the popular cinema website 'Telugu One', the production house may soon shut down, however, no official statements have been made in this regard.
Since 2023, most of Lyca’s projects including ‘Chandramukhi 2’, ‘Lal Salaam’, ‘Vettaiyan’, ‘Indian 2’, and ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ doomed at the box office.
Amidst this imbroglio, it is reported that their British parent company Lyca Mobile is facing VAT and money laundering cases in France, and the United Kingdom. Deliberating the need to bounce back, it is said that Lyca decided not to finance movies for the time being. They would be taking a hiatus from the cinema business.
The financial uncertainty with Aashirvad Cinemas brought the present battered shape of the giant production company to light. Despite selling their shares, Lyca still has stakes in Empuraan as their name continues to find a place in the latest posters of the movie.
The big question remains about the release of the already filmed 'Indian 3' while rumours inside the industry say that Lyca would call it a day after completing the much-awaited Jason Sanjay film.
