Monitoring committee to inspect Mullaperiyar Dam today; protest by Periyar Vaigai Irrigation Farmers Association

KUMILY: The Mullaperiyar Monitoring Committee will inspect the dam today after eight months. The inspection is being conducted by a seven-member committee led by National Dam Safety Authority Chairman Anil Jain. The team includes two representatives from Kerala and two from Tamil Nadu. After inspecting the dam at 10 am, a meeting will be held at the Mullaperiyar office in Valiyakandam at 3 pm.

Meanwhile, the Periyar Vaigai Irrigation Farmers Association has blocked roads in Tamil Nadu, demanding that representatives from Kerala be excluded from the monitoring committee's visit. The march to Kumily was stopped by the police. It was also demanded that Kerala police and forest department officials be removed from the Mullaperiyar dam.
