THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Stop throwing away food wrappings, whether it's plastic or banana leaves. Just like eating a cone after eating ice cream, one can eat the wrapper that wraps the food.
Students of Vellayani Agricultural College have made food wrappers using edible packaging technology. The students are Ashir, a native of Kundamangalam, Kozhikode, and Muhammed Nabin, his junior who is a native of Anchal, Kollam.
The name is 'Eden Wrappers'
A cover in appearance. Essences can be added to add flavour. Even if thrown away, it does not harm the environment.
The basic ingredients are starch and cellulose collected from special plants and bacteria. The wrapper is made by adding natural essential oils to it.
Ashir is a final year student of M.Sc. Biotechnology. Muhammad is a B.Sc. Honours Agriculture student. Ashir's father is Ummer, mother is Asina. Siblings are Ashira and Asna. Muhammad's father is Nizam, mother is Tahira, and sister is Neema.
Best Startup
This is one of the top two startups selected in the Kerala Science, Technology and Environment Council's startup event related to agriculture.
The team won the pitching event at IIT Madras. They became a finalist at IIT Bombay and NIT Calicut.
The experiment started by reading books and watching YouTube videos from 2021.
The capital was the funds received from the college and the prize money collected from competitions. The research was supported by the college's Dean Roy Stephen.
Starting with burger
In the first phase, it will be used to wrap sandwiches and burgers in Technopark and Infopark. The team is trying for incubation at CSIR's Central Food Technological Research Institute. A patent application has also been made. It will be brought to the market as soon as possible.
