NEDUMANGAD: There are many sports stars who have made it into the Indian Military Service and the Kerala Police. The soldier Nidarsh (36), who was found hanging in a lodge room near the Bhopal railway station in Madhya Pradesh the other day, was prominent among them. While serving in the Corps of Signals in the Army, he became an excellent all-rounder on the playing field. Nidarsh's hand power was a hit in the army team, the local 'Eleven Boys' and volleyball and cricket matches.
Nidarsh would visit his old friends when he comes on leave. He would be on the front lines, ready to serve at weddings and other emergencies. He was an active member of the Uzhappakonam Ayyappa Seva Sangh. Nidarsh studied at Karuppur Government High School and Nedumangad Government Technical School. Hehad joined the military service for 15 years through the sports quota and was about to be discharged after two years.
Nidarsh left for the camp in Bhopal on May 1 after a month's leave. He had laid the foundation stone for a house on the land in Pattom which belonged to his wife. He left after hugging and kissing his wife Mithuna and children Arjun Darsh (7) and Agraj Darsh (3). When Nidarsh could not be reached on his mobile phone on Saturday, his relatives called other soldiers who were Nidarsh's acquaintances in the camp and searched for him. During the search, he was found hanging in a lodge room adjacent to the railway station. Relatives and locals reached Bhopal and lodged a complaint with the police and the army camp. After the postmortem this morning, preparations are being made to fly the body home. The body will be brought home by tomorrow evening.
"I don't believe he committed suicide. There should be a detailed investigation into his death," said childhood friend Akhil.
He is the younger son of businessman Sudarshan and retired court employee Nirmala of Uzhappakonam. His brother is Adarsh (a nurse in London).
