A fake website in the name of the Public Examinations Board was thriving for the last few days, confusing many students in Kerala. It is undoubtedly a very serious crime. A group based in Uttar Pradesh was found to be behind the fraud. This website provides a certificate to SSLC and class 12 students. It is known that many have even used these fake certificates to grab jobs in various firms. With complaints rising and things going worse, a complaint has been filed with the DGP on the instructions of Education Minister V. Sivankutty, seeking an investigation into this incident.

The police should immediately announce a swift investigation by appointing a special team into the incident where several students in the state are suspected of being victims of cheating. The fraud came to light when the certificates of those who had obtained jobs using fake certificates were brought to the Examination Hall for verification. It had earlier been discovered that three fake websites were operating in the name of the examination board.

Two of these were shut down in 2018-19 due to the intervention of the cyber police. Four people were arrested. However, one website remained. The last fake SSLC certificate was caught in the examination hall almost eight months ago. When the fraud was found out, the Examination Secretary submitted a report to the Director of General Education.

The Education Department filed a complaint with the DGP after fake news that the SSS and USS exam results had been published appeared on this website a few days ago. These days, software nerds and hackers could easily bring out fake certificates in a canter. Most of their operations are located in other states. They also charge a good price for the certificate.

Some people rely on such certificates mostly to secure jobs abroad and for other purposes. None of them needs to go to the examination hall for verification. Therefore, the extent of this fraud can only be understood through a professional and extensive investigation. The possibility that agents of these fake websites operating in the state cannot be ruled out.

Such practice is detrimental and would affect the morale of students who work hard to land a lucrative job. It is imperative to catch this fraud gang and take them to task.
