NEW DELHI: This year's Indian Premier League (IPL) matches have been temporarily suspended in the wake of the escalating India-Pakistan tension. Earlier, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal had said that a decision will be taken after reviewing the situation on whether the matches should continue.
The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, had to be abandoned midway due to security concerns. The siren sounded after Pakistan's drone and missile attacks on Indian cities, and the electricity in the stadium was disconnected. With this, the matches were suspended.
BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla had earlier made it clear that a decision will be taken soon on whether the IPL will continue or not. The priority is the safety of the players. He had also said that no instructions have been received from the central government so far. Following the tensions, many airports in the country have been closed. This will also make it difficult for the IPL match to continue.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to relocate the Pakistan Super League matches following the blast outside the stadium in Rawalpindi yesterday. The blast occurred just before the start of the match.
