'Employees must stop crying before returning to work'; woman alleges she was fired by company because of April Fools' prank

OTTAWA: A young woman has alleged that she lost her job because of an April Fool's prank she pulled at the office. The reason for her dismissal was a sticker she had placed in the toilet. The sticker, which was posted on the mirror inside the restroom, read: "Employees must stop crying before returning to work." The woman, who is Canadian, came forward on social media with the claim that she was fired by the company solely because of this sticker.

"I couldn't believe it when the company owner informed me the very next day that I was being fired because of the sticker. It was just an April Fool's joke. In fact, I had even informed the HR officer about the prank beforehand and received permission. They even told me which restroom to put it in.

But when I showed up at work the next day, my belongings had already been removed. I immediately went to the boss's office and took full responsibility for the prank. I don’t blame anyone for what happened. In the ten months I worked at the company, I was never subject to any disciplinary action. Being fired broke my heart. After I explained everything, my boss cried in front of me. That felt strange. What should I do now? Should I approach the labour board?" the woman wrote on social media.
