THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Several senior Congress leaders expressed the opinion in the leadership meeting that there is no need for a hasty and complete overhaul of the KPCC office bearers. The general sentiment was that any decision in this regard should be made only after thorough discussions.
In the first meeting of the KPCC office bearers and DCC presidents since the new leadership assumed charge, there was a general consensus that winning the upcoming local body elections should be the top priority. There was no objection to replacing DCC presidents who have expressed a willingness to step down due to health issues or those who are significantly underperforming. If necessary for the smoother functioning of the KPCC, required changes can be made. However, the majority preferred that the current leadership continue for now, believing this would aid the efficiency of election-related activities.
Former KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran emphasised that any decisions taken should not be unilateral. He added that a positive atmosphere currently exists and that the collective goal of winning the elections should be maintained. Former KPCC president and MP K. Sudhakaran shared a similar view. Another former KPCC president, K. Muraleedharan, stressed the importance of unity, warning against an attitude of “let them leave if they want to.” He urged that no situation should be created where anyone feels compelled to exit. The focus should be on winning the local body elections, he said. He also pointed out that in districts like Thiruvananthapuram, a triangular contest is likely, and disunity could benefit the BJP.
The meeting acknowledged that the outgoing leadership had performed commendably, citing the formation of ward committees, the organisation of around 12,000 family gatherings, and various training programs. There was a consensus to soon organise a KPCC camp executive, most likely in Kozhikode. KPCC working committee members K.C. Venugopal, Ramesh Chennithala, Kodikunnil Suresh, Shashi Tharoor, and KPCC Working President Shafi Parambil MP did not attend the meeting.
