KANNUR: With rain turning incessant in the state, authorities declared a holiday for educational institutions in five Kerala districts on Friday. The holiday has been declared for educational institutions in Kannur, Idukki, Kottayam, Kasaragod and Ernakulam districts.

The District Collector announced that educational institutions, Anganwadis, Madrasas, tuition centres, and special classes in the district will be closed on Friday due to the red alert declared in the district and the ongoing heavy rains. Educational institutions in Kannur were closed even on Thursday.

The district has been hit by heavy rain and winds, causing extensive damage. Trees were uprooted and branches snapped, causing power outages that lasted for hours. Authorities have warned the public to be extremely vigilant. If you notice any electrical hazards or potential hazards, report them to the respective KSEB section office or the special emergency number 9496010101.

Given the orange alert declared in Ernakulam district due to heavy rain and wind, the Collector announced that all educational institutions, including professional institutions, will remain closed on Friday. The holiday applies to Anganwadis and tuition centres.

A red alert has been issued in three districts including in Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Friday.
