PATHANAMTHITTA: On Wednesday, Ranjitha packed her bags to leave her home in Pathanamthitta after receiving Godspeed from her family members. She boarded the flight from Kochi to Ahmedabad and the last family heard from her was before boarding the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft to London this afternoon. By evening, dark clouds rose over Ahmedabad and soon India went on to witness one of the most devastating air tragedies in her history.

Ranjitha’s hometown in Thiruvalla is still in shock by the news. The family members are in disbelief. Terrible scenes ensued on Thursday evening when Ranjitha’s two children returned home from school to see a posse of reporters. What waited for them inside the house was their grandmother’s inconsolable wailing. Soon, the news was transferred and emotional scenes took over the house.

Even relatives who tried to console the children ended up in tears. Igitha, a seventh-grader, and Induchudan, a tenth-grader, demanded to see their mother once more and prevailed on it leaving the onlookers speechless.

Ranjitha is the daughter of late Gopakumaran Nair and Thulasi.

Locals said that Ranjitha had planned to quit her job abroad and return to her hometown to take care of her children and mother. The construction of a new house was in progress. The young woman, who had previously worked in the Gulf, joined London only a year ago. Ranjitha is an employee at Portsmouth University Hospital.
