JAKARTA: Several international flight services to Bali have been disrupted due to a powerful volcanic eruption in eastern Indonesia. Flights, including those operated by Air India, were either cancelled or rerouted. One such flight, AI 2145, which departed from Delhi to Bali this morning, had to turn back mid-route after receiving information about the volcanic eruption.
Air India confirmed that the flight landed safely at Delhi airport and that all passengers were safely deboarded. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers and assured that hotel accommodations would be provided for those who returned. According to an airline spokesperson, passengers who opt to cancel their tickets will be offered a full refund or an alternative arrangement.
International news agencies have reported that several other airlines have also cancelled their flights to Bali due to the volcanic activity. Airlines such as Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Air New Zealand, Tigerair, and Juneyao Airlines have reportedly suspended services to Bali. The eruption occurred yesterday evening at Mount Lewotolok, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes. A similar eruption occurred in November last year, which resulted in nine reported deaths.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Geological Agency has warned of the possibility of lava flow due to heavy rains and has urged residents and travelers to remain cautious. No casualties have been reported in the current eruption.
