Actor and director Lal's words criticizing the acting style of senior actor Jagathy Sreekumar are gaining attention. Lal's statement was made in an interview given to a media outlet in connection with the promotion of the web series 'Kerala Crime Files'.
'When talking about Ambilichettan, there is one thing that is said the most. When taking a shot, he will say some dialogue that we do not expect at all. He will make some gestures. That is something that should not be encouraged at all. One should not do that. After someone does that, the director must definitely respond to it. Either he should say that the actor should have done it after warning he is going to do it or say 'It was good, OK'. Or he must say that it is not necessary and remove or change it.
"It is not right to do spot improvisation even if he is talented and clever. No matter how great an actor he is. It is more than whether it will affect that scene. There are other artists who are in the scene. The crew may have decided on one thing. This should be the last word of the dialogue that one actor says, and sometimes I have to say my dialogue in relation to that word. If that connection is lost, it will be difficult for us to begin our dialogue. Sometimes we might manage to adjust, but it will be a forced reaction, not a natural one. It will still be us 'forcing'. In that situation, the one who improvises seems to shine but the truth is, he has succeeded at the cost of the other’s failure. So that is not right at all. Presenting it in his own way, adding something spontaneously and calling it brilliance, is not a good sign at all," says Lal.
