Woman arrested for newborn’s death in Pathanamthitta

PATHANAMTHITTA: A woman has been arrested in connection with the death of her newborn baby in Mezhuveli. The arrested is a 21-year-old woman, who is unmarried. A murder case has been registered against her. She was undergoing treatment for excessive bleeding at a hospital in Chengannur. The Elavumthitta police said that she will be taken into custody as soon as she is discharged from the hospital.

More details will be obtained only if she is questioned in detail. Her lover will also be questioned. The baby's body was found wrapped in a Colocasia leaf and abandoned in a nearby field. The postmortem conducted at Kottayam Medical College revealed that the cause of death was a head injury.


She gave birth to the baby at around 4 am on Tuesday. The baby died after hitting her head while throwing her out of the room soon after giving birth in the house. The woman had hidden the fact that she was pregnant from her family. The woman sought treatment for excessive bleeding, but initially hid the fact that she had given birth. She later told the nurse. The hospital authorities immediately informed the police.
