KOCHI: Beloved actor Jagathy Sreekumar made an emotional return to the limelight as he attended the AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) general body meeting after a 13-year hiatus. Dressed in a sandal-colored shirt and black pants, the veteran actor arrived in a wheelchair with a radiant smile. AMMA President Mohanlal warmly welcomed him, holding his hand affectionately and greeting him softly. In return, Jagathy raised his hand and gently patted Mohanlal’s head in a gesture of warmth.
Jagathy, who had been on a long break from public life following a major car accident in 2012, received a grand reception at the meeting, which took place in Kaloor, Kochi. This marks his first appearance at an AMMA event since the accident near the Calicut University area in Malappuram on March 10, 2012. AMMA's ad-hoc committee had extended a special invitation to bring him to the meeting.
He was seated in the front row of the venue, where senior and younger actors alike approached him, embraced him, and expressed their love and admiration. Jagathy responded to everyone with his characteristic bright smile. He had arrived at the hotel in Kaloor with his family on Saturday and was accompanied by his son to the convention centre at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Sreenivasan attends meeting, Madhu attends online
Actor Sreenivasan, who has been undergoing treatment and rest at his home in Thrippunithura due to health issues, also attended the AMMA meeting. He was seated near Jagathy at the front of the stage, offering a touching visual of two veteran actors together.
AMMA’s senior-most member, legendary actor Madhu, addressed the gathering live via an online video call. He remarked that, despite efforts from within to destabilise AMMA’s growth, the organisation had continued to thrive. He credited AMMA’s strength to its collective unity and selfless leadership. Although unable to attend in person due to health concerns, he expressed joy at being able to join the conversation virtually.
