THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KPCC Political Affairs Committee has decided not to move forward immediately with the inclusion of PV Anvar—who had previously taken on the UDF in Nilambur—into the alliance. The general sentiment among committee members was to defer the decision, possibly revisiting it during the local body election phase. However, former KPCC president K. Sudhakaran, attending the meeting virtually, supported Anvar’s induction into the front.
With the local body and state assembly elections on the horizon, the meeting emphasised the urgency of revamping the KPCC structure. While a full-scale reorganisation was deemed unlikely at this stage, members highlighted the importance of implementing key changes. The reconstitution of District Congress Committees (DCCs) is also on the agenda, with discussions set to begin soon. Senior leader K. Muraleedharan suggested that any changes must be made swiftly, warning that delays could render them ineffective.
The meeting also saw critical voices raised against Congress Working Committee member Shashi Tharoor. Several leaders expressed concern over what they described as Tharoor’s repeated disruptions within the party. Shanimol Usman and Ramesh Chennithala were among those who voiced the need for a clear stance on his actions. While Chennithala acknowledged Tharoor's controversial conduct, he nonetheless urged the party to continue accommodating him.
“There’s no reason for anyone to fear me. I’ve never done anything to harm the party. Even in more difficult times, I’ve remained silent,” Chennithala assured the committee.
Meanwhile, Malappuram DCC president V.S. Joy received appreciation for his efforts during the Nilambur by-election, despite not being fielded as a candidate. His commitment and performance were lauded by the leadership. The meeting was attended by AICC general secretaries K.C. Venugopal and Deepa Dasmunsi, along with secretaries Arivazhagan, P.V. Mohanan, and Mansoor Ali Khan.
