TEXAS: At least 24 people died in flash floods in Texas after heavy rains battered the southern central state of the US. More than 20 girls who were at the summer camp in the place have been reported missing. The flooding occurred northwest of San Antonio, Texas, in the early hours of Saturday morning. The disaster was caused after the water level rose in the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, Texas, following heavy rains late on Friday.
Videos of houses and trees being swept away in the deluge have surfaced. With rains expected to intensify in the coming days, authorities have warned of more difficult days ahead.
The search and rescue operations are ongoing for the missing people. 237 people have been rescued. US media reported that trucks had arrived at the campsite since Friday evening and started evacuating people. A large-scale rescue operation is underway to find the missing girls. About 500 rescue workers, 14 helicopters and experts, including swimmers, have been deployed to the area.
