NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with Namibia's highest civilian honour, the 'Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis'. The award is named after the Welwitschia mirabilis, an ancient desert plant found only in Namibia. The award has been given since 1995 for distinguished service and leadership.
This is the fourth award received by the Prime Minister, who is visiting five countries. Other awards were received from Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago and Buenos Aires. With this, the number of awards received by Modi since becoming Prime Minister has reached 27.
The Prime Minister arrived in the capital, Windhoek, at 6 am Namibian time today. The Prime Minister met with President Dr. Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and addressed the Namibian Parliament. The Prime Minister said that he discussed ways to expand bilateral relations with the President.
"President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and I reviewed the full range of India-Namibia relations during our talks today. Cooperation in areas such as digital technology, defence, security, agriculture, healthcare, education and critical minerals figured prominently in our discussions." Prime Minister posted on X.
