NEW DELHI: A fire broke out on an Air India flight shortly after it landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The aircraft, which arrived from Hong Kong, caught fire while parking after all passengers had disembarked safely. According to official sources, no passengers or crew members were injured in the incident.
The fire was reported in the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) of flight AI 315. The aircraft had just landed and was parked at the gate when the APU caught fire. The system automatically shut down as a safety measure. The aircraft reportedly sustained minor damage. According to national media reports, the fire occurred while passengers were in the process of deboarding. Airport authorities quickly brought the situation under control.
This incident comes just days after another Air India Express flight from Dubai to Karipur was cancelled following a four-hour delay. Passengers had already boarded when a technical issue was detected. Efforts to fix the problem took hours, during which passengers had to remain inside the aircraft — reportedly without functioning air conditioning — causing much discomfort.
