NEW DELHI: India launched a scathing attack against Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, accusing it of supporting terrorism and mismanaging its economy. India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, issued the statement in response to remarks made by the Pakistani representative during a discussion on the theme of "Peace and Multilateralism."
"The Indian subcontinent presents a stark contrast when it comes to models of progress, prosperity, and development. On one side stands India, with a mature democracy, a rapidly growing economy, and a pluralistic society. On the other side is Pakistan, which supports religious extremism and terrorism," India stated.
India pointed out that Pakistan continues to seek loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and engages in practices that are unacceptable to the international community, including delivering religious lectures on platforms where such behaviour is inappropriate for Council members.
"States that promote cross-border terrorism and undermine their neighbours and international relations will have to pay a heavy price. Following the April 25 Council statement after the Pahalgam terror attack, India launched 'Operation Sindoor' targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. At Pakistan’s request, India later decided to halt military operations to achieve initial objectives," the representative noted.
India also highlighted that the nature of conflict has changed in recent decades. “With the help of modern digital and communication technologies, cross-border financing, arms smuggling, terrorist training, and the spread of radical ideologies have all increased,” it said.
