BENGALURU: In a tragic incident in Karnataka, a father and two of his children died after consuming vegetables sprayed with pesticides from their own farm. The incident occurred in Raichur, northern Karnataka. The mother and two other children are in critical condition and have been admitted to the hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Ramesh Naik (38), a native of Thimmapur village in Sirawar, and his daughters Nagamma (8) and Deepa (6). Ramesh’s wife Padma (35) and their other children Krishna (12) and Chaitra (10) are undergoing treatment at the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences.

The family had prepared a curry using vegetables harvested from their farm and ate it with roti on Monday night. According to doctors, pesticide residues may have remained on the vegetables as they had been sprayed two days earlier.

After dinner, the family members began experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting, leading to their hospitalisation. Ramesh had been cultivating vegetables on his two-acre plot primarily for household consumption.
