THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Catholic Forum led a march to Raj Bhavan to protest the detention of two Malayali nuns in Chhattisgarh. The protest was led by KCBC President Mar Cleemis, who covered his mouth with a black cloth. Along with the Major Archbishop-Catholicos, priests, members of the monastic community and believers also participated in the protest.

The protesters demanded the nuns' release as soon as possible. Cardinal Mar Baselios Cleemis urged people to applaud the nuns' services. "The nuns are the pride of secular India. Their services have brought tens of thousands of people into the mainstream," he said in the March. Mar Clemmis said that he was very sad to see a section of people celebrating when the Durg sessions court denied bail to the nuns. He asked the government to explain to the public why the two nuns were unjustly detained for six days.

The sessions court today rejected the bail application of the arrested Malayali nuns in jail. The case was transferred to the Bilaspur NIA court for further proceedings. The court directed the transfer of the case to the NIA in the context of the FIR filed against the nuns for serious charges, including human trafficking. The sessions court has also directed to approach the High Court for bail. The action was taken because the sessions court does not have the authority to consider such a case. The lawyers of the church leadership, including the nuns, were present in the court for the nuns.
