BENGALURU: Police have arrested a youth in connection with the brutal murder of a 20-year-old woman in Chitradurga, Karnataka. The accused, identified as Chetan, admitted during interrogation that he strangled the victim after a sexual encounter and later set her body on fire by pouring petrol to destroy evidence. He told police that he had been in a relationship with the woman for two years and killed her after she insisted on marriage. Chetan is employed with a private company in Gangavati.
The woman had gone missing from her hostel on August 14. According to police, Chetan lured her out and took her to Gonur, where the crime was committed. He then used petrol from his bike to burn the body, leaving behind her shoes before escaping.
The incident came to light after the victim’s relatives staged strong protests, prompting swift police action. Her half-burnt, unclothed body was later recovered from a roadside area.
