THRISSUR: BJP leader B Gopalakrishnan's response to the LDF-UDF allegations that the party had added voters to win Thrissur Lok Sabha election in 2024, had sparked a controversy. He said people are even brought from outside to win the elections.
‘We will bring people from even Jammu and Kashmir and will include them in the electoral roll after making them stay in the constituency for a year. We will do that tomorrow also,' clarified B Gopalakrishnan. In his opinion, these are not fake votes. Gopalakrishnan said that they have no intention to do this in the assembly elections and that such a decision was taken in the Lok Sabha elections. He opined that it will be considered at the time of the assembly elections.
'Voting in the name of a dead person and one casting vote twice is called fake voting. People can be added to the voter list in any address. We will add votes widely to win. There is no doubt about that,' he said. Suresh Gopi's victory in Thrissur was by a majority of 74,682 votes. Gopalakrishnan said the Congress got 4.16 lakh votes in 2019, reduced to 3.27 lakh in 2024 and asked where the remaining 90,000 votes had gone.
He said that the UDF and LDF have come together in many places to defeat the BJP.
