KOCHI: A youth left his minor son, a fourth class student, with his high-breed dogs in a rented house and fled. The incident happened at Eroor in Tripunithura.

Three months ago, Sudheesh S Kumar rented a house with his son at Ayyampillichira Road in Eroor. He later brought his 26 dogs to the house. The neighbors had complained to the municipality about the nuisance of the dogs. The municipality later served a notice to Sudheesh. He then left the place on Sunday. When his father did not turn up at night, the scared son called his mother in Germany. She then called 112 and requested help. The police reached the house, rescued the child and handed him over to his grandparents.

Hearing the cries of the dogs, who had been without food and water for three days, the neighbors informed councilor P B Satheesan. The councilor then informed the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) workers. They arrived and took over the dogs. The dogs were worth Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000. Meantime, no information has been received about the youth. SPCA district secretary T K Sajeev said that a complaint will be filed against him for abandoning the dogs.
