There is a question that Prime Minister Modi asked at the Shanghai Summit in China. It was whether the open support for terrorism by some countries can ever be acceptable to us. Modi asked this question while leaders of the world, including Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping, were on the stage. Modi, as if answering his own question, said that the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, was not only an attack on India's soul but also an open challenge to all countries that believe in humanity. India spoke about terrorism after giving a retaliatory response to the Pahalgam attack. Therefore, the power, energy and message of those words were tenfold greater.
The outcome of the Shanghai Summit was also proof of India's biggest diplomatic victory. The SCO summit, of which Pakistan is a member, issued a joint statement on the last day, strongly condemning the Pahalgam terror attack. The organization demanded that those responsible for the attack be brought to justice and supported India's position that there should be no double standards in combating terrorism. The summit condemned the war in Gaza and the terrorist attacks on express trains in Pakistan's Balochistan province. The meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Summit can be considered as the beginning of the emergence of a new economic world order against the threats of US tariffs.
The summit gave a clear signal to the world that India-China-Russia relations will become stronger. This was a cooperative meeting that once again confirmed the strength of the relationship between Russia and India. Observers consider the sight of Modi and Putin holding hands and approaching Xi Jinping for a friendly conversation as a sign of further strengthening of cooperation between the three countries. Russian President Putin and Prime Minister Modi returned to the hotel in the same vehicle after the summit. The two talked for 50 minutes in the car.
It is noteworthy that this is the first time that the two leaders have travelled together and had a conversation in a car since US President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on India for buying Russian oil. Modi shared a photo of the trip on X. By sharing the photo with Putin, Modi was silently declaring that India is not going to stop buying oil from Russia due to the US threat. Xi Jinping said that the world is changing and India and China need to be friends, and Modi added that the two countries are partners, not rivals. If India, China and Russia stand together, it will not take long for the US threats to turn into lines drawn in the water.
