THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the National Medical Commission's approval to Wayanad and Kasaragod Government Medical Colleges, the government has started the process of admitting students to the colleges this year itself. The new colleges will be included in the allotment only if the process is completed before the 22nd.

Minister Veena George has assigned DME Dr. KV Viswanathan to directly visit both the medical colleges and make arrangements. There are 100 MBBS seats, 50 each, in both colleges. Seven seats each have been reserved for the All India Quota. Admissions in each college are for the remaining 43 seats. These seats will be reported to the Entrance Commissioner through the Health University. Material conditions should be prepared, and teachers should be arranged before this. Teachers from other medical colleges will be assigned to both places until new appointments are made.

Posts had already been created for both the medical colleges. Minister Veena George announced that appointments in these colleges will be ensured through PSC. As soon as permission is received for the land identified for the Wayanad Medical College, steps will be taken to construct academic, administration and hostel blocks through KIIFB as per the master plan. The comprehensive development of Kasaragod Medical College will be made possible through KIIFB and the Kasaragod Development Package.
