Peechi custodial torture: CI PV Ratheesh gets show-cause notice

THRISSUR: A show-cause notice has been issued to CI PV Ratheesh in connection with the incident where a hotel owner and his son were physically assaulted at the Peechi Police Station. The notice was issued by South Zone IG Syamsundar, giving Ratheesh 15 days to explain why action should not be taken against him.

On May 24, 2023, Ratheesh, who was then the SI at Peechi, allegedly brutally assaulted the manager of Lalys hotel in Pattikkad, Thrissur, and his son. Ratheesh is currently serving as CI at Kadavanthra station in Kochi.

The assault took place after a false complaint was raised by a customer who had come to eat at the hotel. Ratheesh allegedly hit hotel manager KP Ouseph on the face with his hand and a flask. When the manager's son questioned this, he too was slapped on the face. An inquiry by Additional SO Sasidharan had found Ratheesh guilty, following which the show-cause notice was issued. Further action will depend on Ratheesh's reply.

Meanwhile, Ratheesh claimed that he only called the hotel manager and driver to the station based on a complaint that an attempt was made to kill a man named Dineshan at the hotel by stuffing biryani into his mouth. He also explained to the Additional SP that he had not assaulted the hotel staff.
