THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A complaint has been filed alleging that a remand prisoner was brutally beaten by prison officials inside the district jail. Biju, a former employee of the Peroorkada Mental Health Centre, is in a critical condition in the ICU of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Biju of Pathanamthitta was arrested in the case of assaulting a female colleague.

Biju is presently on ventilator. Biju, a temporary employee was arrested by the Peroorkada police on September 12 and remanded. Biju had shown some mental issues while being remanded and so the court had sought treatment for him.

The jail authorities took him to the hospital on September 13 after finding him lying unconscious in the drain of the district jail. When scanned, it was found that his internal organs were seriously injured. He was immediately operated and admitted to the ICU.

However, the jail officials have denied the allegations of beating him. He was taken to the General Hospital as per the court order on September 12. The next day, he was taken to the medical college and scanned, and it was found that there were injuries in his internal organs. None of the jail authorities have attacked him. There are CCTV footages of Biju when he was in jail. The jail officials also said that they do not know what the mentally challenged accused told the doctors.
