MANCHESTER: In a shocking incident, an attacker drove a car into a crowd outside a Jewish synagogue in Manchester and stabbed two people to death. The attack took place during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Three others sustained serious injuries. Police shot the attacker dead at the scene.

Manchester police said they are investigating whether the attacker had any explosives with him. The motive behind the attack is still unclear. Authorities have declared "Plato" at the site- a national code used by police and emergency services when responding to a possible terror attack. It means that the incident has not been declared a terrorist attack.

King Charles III expressed deep sorrow over the attack. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer wrote on X that more police officers would be deployed at places of worship across the UK during Yom Kippur.
