NEW DELHI: India has reacted as mass protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) continued for the fifth day. India blamed Pakistan’s policies for the unrest, saying the demonstrations led by the Awami Action Council turned violent because of Islamabad’s oppressive approach and systemic plundering of local resources.

India strongly condemned Pakistan’s attempt to crush the protests. At least 15 people have been killed in the firing so far, and more than 150 have been injured. Describing the treatment of civilians in PoK as "horrific,” India said the protests are taking place in illegally occupied territory and that Pakistan’s military action is an act of brutality.

India also urged the international community to hold Pakistan responsible for human rights violations in PoK. Since the protests began, shops and businesses have stayed closed, while mobile, internet, and landline services remain blocked. Reports say Pakistani forces, along with members of the ISI-backed Muslim Conference, opened fire on protestors. To control the situation, Pakistan has also sent more troops to the area.
