‘One who killed my daughter’; Father of child, who died of amoebic infection, hacks doctor

KOZHIKODE: A doctor of Thamarassery Taluk Hospital was attacked on Wednesday. Sanoop, father of nine-year-old girl Anaya, who died of amoebic encephalitis, hacked Dr Vipin of the hospital. He was taken to a private hospital in Kozhikode after giving first aid. He sustained injuries on his head.

Sanoop attacked the doctor alleging medical negligence. He attacked him saying, ‘one who killed my daughter’. Sanoop attacked the doctor when he was talking to the relatives of a patient.

Sanoop reached the hospital to meet the superintendent, but he was not there. He was accompanied by his two children. Seeing the doctor, he attacked him. It is not clear whether Dr Vipin had treated Anaya. The police have taken Sanoop into custody.

The girl suffering from fever, was first brought to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital. While undergoing treatment, her health had worsened. Though she was referred to Kozhikode Medical College, she had lost her life by the time they reached there. Her younger brother was also infected.

Anaya of Aanapara in Thamarasseri was confirmed of the brain eating infection in August. Anaya and her siblings used to practice swimming in a pond near their house. They have contracted the disease from here.
