WhatsApp company Meta is preparing to crack down on spam and unwanted messages. WhatsApp is testing a new feature that limits the number of messages that can be sent to people and business accounts who do not reply. The company aims to reduce spam messages without affecting the normal exchange of ideas.

The new change comes after the introduction of a broadcast message limit in countries with over 500 million users, including India. The experiment, which started in several countries, will soon be expanded to multiple countries around the world.

The new test will prevent a user or business account from sending more messages to recipients who do not reply after receiving a certain number of messages in WhatsApp. Messages sent to a recipient who does not reply will count toward a sender's monthly cap. This can be personal messages, marketing messages, or informational messages. If a recipient replies, the counter for that conversation is reset.

The company has not yet specified the exact cap limit. This is because different limits are currently being tested in different markets. WhatsApp will warn accounts when they exceed the limit with a banner or pop-up. This is to avoid sudden strikes. WhatsApp is implementing this to control those who send messages to large numbers of people and business accounts.

This rule does not apply to contacts with whom the user communicates regularly. It does not apply to those who regularly talk to friends and family. Those who regularly send messages to unknown numbers and exchange information without consent should be the ones who should take care.

Businesses that send large numbers of messages at once for marketing will be subject to significant restrictions. As a result, businesses and their campaigns will have to restructure. Or, they will have to make changes to get approval from recipients quickly to prevent subsequent messages from falling under the cap limit. Accounts that ignore WhatsApp's warning and recipients who do not respond may face a temporary ban on sending messages.
