THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of very heavy rainfall in ten districts of Kerala over the next three hours. The alert, released around 8 p.m., said that Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts are likely to experience very heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning tonight.
An orange alert has been declared in these districts for the next three hours. The IMD also warned of strong winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph. Other districts may experience isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning and wind speeds up to 40 kmph.
Rain forecast for the next five days
The IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts for various districts in Kerala.
Orange alert
These areas are expected to receive very heavy rainfall, meaning between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm of rain in 24 hours.
Yellow alert
These districts may receive isolated heavy rainfall, meaning between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm of rain in 24 hours, often accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Fishermen advised not to venture into sea
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts from October 23 to 27, 2025, due to rough weather conditions. During this period, strong winds with speeds ranging from 40–50 kmph, and occasionally up to 60 kmph, are expected over the Kerala-Karnataka coasts, nearby sea areas, and the Lakshadweep region. Fishermen already out at sea are advised to return to the nearest coast by October 24 to ensure safety.
