THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister V Sivankutty said that former BJP state president K Surendran's statement that RSS founder Hedgewar and Savarkar will be included in the Kerala curriculum is politically motivated. The BJP leader is making such absurd statements because he has no understanding of Kerala's education policy, Sivankutty criticised in a Facebook post.

“Kerala signed the central government’s PM Sree scheme to utilise funds to improve the physical conditions of schools in the state and raise academic standards. It is not to surrender Kerala’s syllabus to the central government. Do not assume that the central syllabus will be taught in Kerala just because Kerala has signed the PM Sree MoU,” the minister clarified.

“Kerala has its own strong curriculum and educational vision. The central government’s moves to distort history and communalize education will not work in Kerala. No one can erase from Kerala’s textbooks the historical truth that Nathuram Vinayak Godse assassinated the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Education that upholds constitutional values and secularism, based on the Kerala syllabus, will continue to be provided by public schools in Kerala. The state government does not intend to teach Hedgewar and Savarkar to Kerala children as Surendran desires. The BJP’s attempt to create confusion in the public education sector in Kerala through such statements will not work,” Sivankutty pointed out.

K Surendran had stated that the National Education Policy (NEP) would be fully implemented in Kerala following the Kerala government's decision to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the PM SHRI scheme. He stated that the revised curriculum would include historical figures like V. D. Savarkar and RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. Surendran had said that Education Minister V Sivankutty has understood the importance of the National Education Policy and he hopes that Chief Minister Pinarayi will also understand it. The minister's response followed this.
