NEW DELHI: The Central Election Commission has called a press conference on Monday evening. It is expected that the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the nationwide voter list will be announced during this press conference. The press conference is scheduled for 4:15 PM tomorrow.

According to reports, the first phase of the SIR will be implemented in states that are due for assembly elections soon. States likely to be included in the initial phase are Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, West Bengal, Assam, and a few others- a total of around 10 states.

Preparations are already underway in various states and union territories for the implementation of the SIR. In a recent two-day conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) held in New Delhi, the Election Commission decided to complete the entire process within three months, following the Bihar model.

Meanwhile, during the intensive voter list revision, Aadhaar and other identity documents will be used only for identification purposes. To prove citizenship, voters will have to present any one of 11 documents specified by the Election Commission.
