Indian squad for Test series against South Africa announced; Gill to lead side, Pant named vice captain, Shami ignored once again

MUMBAI: The Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa has been announced. Shubman Gill will lead the team. The team, led by Gill, had displayed an excellent performance in the recent Test series against the West Indies. Wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant has returned to the side. He is the vice captain of the team.

Meanwhile, pacer Mohammed Shami was once again ignored by the selection committee. Akash Deep, who had suffered an injury during the Test series against England, has made a comeback to the side. Batter Devdutt Padikkal has also been included in the squad.

India test squad: Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper, vice captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Akash Deep.
