ANGAMALY: Police have confirmed that the death of a six-month-old baby in Angamaly was a case of murder. According to police, the baby’s grandmother, Rosy, slit the infant’s throat. Police have recovered the knife used in the killing. Police said Rosy’s arrest will be formally recorded on Thursday. The murder is believed to have been committed due to mental instability.
The victim was Delna Maria Sara, daughter of Antony and Ruth, residents of Karukutty. Rosy, who had been showing signs of mental illness, has been admitted to M.A.G.J. Hospital, Mookkannur, under police supervision. She will be questioned once her condition improves.
The incident took place around 9 a.m. while the family was preparing to celebrate the fourth birthday of Delna’s brother, Danny. Antony, Ruth, and Ruth’s father Devasikutty were all at home. Ruth had placed the baby beside her and gone to the kitchen to get food. Hearing the baby cry, Antony rushed to the room and found the infant lying in a pool of blood with a deep wound on her neck. She was taken to the hospital immediately but could not be saved. It was the doctor who informed the police.
During the inspection, police recovered the knife from Rosy’s room. Fingerprint and forensic experts visited the house and collected evidence. The investigation was led by DySP T.R. Rajesh. The post-mortem will be conducted on Thursday at Kalamassery Medical College Hospital.
