LUCKNOW: A 30-year-old youth collapsed and died while playing cricket. The incident happened at Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. The dead is Ravindra Ahirwar, a development officer in the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC). He is a native of Nalganj in Sipri Bazaar area of Jhansi. He suddenly felt unwell while bowling a friendly game and then drank water. He vomited, collapsed and died.

The incident happened at the Government Inter College (GIC) grounds in Jhansi. The youth had gone to play after weeks. His friends then rushed him to the hospital, but the doctors confirmed him as dead.

Ravindra was very happy and in perfect health. On Wednesday morning, he woke up early after a long time. Had tea with his father and after saying goodbye to his father, went to the GIC ground to play cricket. About an hour after leaving, the family heard that his health has deteriorated. He was rushed to the medical college hospital where doctors declared him dead, said Ravindra’s younger brother Arvind Ahirwar.

Ravindra joined LIC two years ago. His family said that he loved cricket. Friends said that after bowling a few overs, Ravindra went to drink water. After drinking water, he vomited and collapsed. They first thought he was lying down due to dehydration. Friends revealed that they took him to the hospital when he failed to respond. Doctors said preliminary signs point to a possible cardiac arrest, though the exact cause of death would be known only after the postmortem.
