appointment

MALAPPURAM: The Governor has strictly instructed the Vice Chancellors that only qualified teachers should be appointed as teachers as per the UGC rules in self-financing institutions and affiliated self-financing colleges run by universities in Kerala. The UGC rules require teachers to have NET or a PhD. However, this is not followed for self-financing course teacher appointments run by self-financing colleges and aided colleges.

Governor R.V. Arlekar had conducted a direct hearing on the complaint of a student of Calicut University who failed after an unqualified teacher evaluated the answer sheets. It was then that the information that unqualified teachers were evaluating the answer sheets came to the notice of the Governor.

Teachers without the specified qualifications are evaluating answer sheets in colleges under the Technical University as well. The Governor also directed that the names and qualifications of the teachers should be published on the college portals.

Jobs will be lost, exam results will be delayed

  • Many teachers will lose their jobs if the governor's directive is implemented immediately . Valuing answer sheets will also delay exam results
  • Having to pay high salaries while hiring qualified teachers will be an additional burden for many self-financing colleges
