THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite the court sentencing him to life imprisonment in the Kesavadasapuram Manorama (68) murder case, convict Adam Ali remained indifferent and even exuded confidence.

Adam, now 24 years old, shouted that he would be released at the age of 38, implying it was not a big deal for him. After the verdict, the accused, who ran away from the court, was caught by lawyers and police. Ali did not budge after learning the verdict from his lawyers. The accused was 21 years old when he was arrested in 2022. Despite being behind bars for three long years, the demon within him remains intact.

The Medical College Police filed a charge sheet in the court within 63 days of the crime, blocking the accused's way out. A 300-page charge sheet was filed in the case, including 65 witnesses, 30 documents and 58 records.

Public Prosecutor Geenakumari appeared for the prosecution. The punishment is life imprisonment and Rs 50,000 under Section 362 of the Indian Penal Code, 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 449, seven years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 393, seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 397, and seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 201.

The incident related to the case took place in 2021. Adam Ali, a native of Bengal, Cooch Behar, stabbed Dinaraj's wife Manorama (68) in the neck with a knife at her house in Meenamkunnil on Keshavadasapuram Rekshapuri Road. The accused committed the crime after making sure that Manorama’s husband was not at home. After stabbing, he strangled her to death.

The body was dumped in a well in a nearby field. After the murder, he was caught by the Railway Security Force in Chennai in 2022 while trying to escape from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengal.

Five migrant workers, including Adam Ali, had come to work on a construction site near Manorama's house. The accused had been coming to Manorama's house to take drinking water for about a month, so he had a clear idea about the house and its residents. The murder was committed behind the house when Manorama's husband had gone to his daughter's house in Varkala. The body was dragged and thrown into a nearby well. Bricks were tied to the legs of the body to prevent it from floating. The police, who became suspicious, questioned the migrant workers and conducted an investigation focusing on CCTV.
