THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rahul Easwar, who was arrested and remanded for defaming the complainant in the sexual assault case against Rahul Mamkootathil MLA, has begun a hunger strike in the jail. He told police that he needs only water. He is housed in B Block of the district jail. The court remanded him yesterday for defaming the woman who filed a complaint against the MLA.

The order of additional chief judicial magistrate Elsa Catherine George accepted the prosecution's argument that granting bail would hinder the investigation and destroy digital evidence. The order was delivered after examining the videos. The prosecution pointed that he had repeatedly made sexual remarks on social media and had frightened the complainant.

The police informed that the complainant's picture was on Rahul's laptop and that he regularly does such things. The prosecution pointed that granting bail would affect the investigation. However, the defense argued that non-bailable sections were added after the arrest for a bailable offence. Meantime, Rahul Easwar will file an appeal in the Thiruvananthapuram District Court today in the cyber abuse case. When produced for medical examination, Rahul told media that the police framed him after lying.
