
THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: The counting of votes to the local body elections held in two phases began Saturday morning at 8 am. The counting will be almost complete by 2 pm. There are 244 counting centers across the state. The progress of the counting can be checked on election commission's TREND website.
The postal ballots were first counted and then the votes in the voting machines were counted. Postal ballots for district panchayat seats will be counted at the respective district collectorates. State Election Commissioner A Shajahan has urged political parties and supporters to maintain restraint during victory celebrations. The model code of conduct will remain in force until December 18.
Loudspeakers cannot be used in a manner that blocks or disrupts traffic on public roads and junctions. Fireworks and crackers are allowed only as per legal guidelines. Green protocol, noise-control rules, and environmental regulations must be strictly followed during celebrations.

NDA wins the Punkunnam division in Thrissur Corporation. The UDF wins three wards in the Palakkad Municipality. They won the first, second and third wards. They wrested the first and third wards from the BJP. One of these is Olavakode, which was a stronghold of the BJP.
