Sixteen days behind bars; Rahul Easwar granted bail

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rahul Easwar, who was arrested for cyber-abusing a woman who had filed a rape complaint against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, has been granted bail. The bail was granted by the Thiruvananthapuram District Sessions Court.

Rahul Easwar has been granted bail 16 days after his arrest. Rahul told the court that he had not knowingly committed any wrongdoing and would not repeat the crime. The bail was granted with conditions. The court also directed that witnesses should not be influenced.

The police have registered a case against Rahul Easwar under the sections of insulting women and intimidation. He has also been charged with misuse of electronic systems. It is an offence punishable by up to two years in prison. The cyber police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the victim, who alleged that personal information was disclosed. Rahul had been screaming that the custody was unfair every time he was brought to court, transferred to the hospital, and taken to jail.
