DOHA: A Qatar Airways aircraft narrowly avoided a major accident after encountering strong winds just moments before landing at Atlanta airport in the United States. The incident was safely handled due to the timely action of the pilot. The flight, QR 755, was operating from Doha, the capital of Qatar, to Atlanta when powerful winds struck during the final approach for landing. Realising that conditions were unsafe, the pilot executed a go-around, a standard aviation safety procedure.
The aircraft, which had already descended close to the runway, climbed back into the air at the last moment. During the manoeuvre, the tail of the plane missed scraping the runway by only a few inches, preventing a potential disaster.
A video of the incident, which occurred on December 14, has gone viral on social media. The footage shows the aircraft swaying sharply in turbulent winds before the pilot regains control and safely aborts the landing.
A go-around is a routine safety measure used when pilots determine that landing conditions are unsafe. In such situations, the aircraft is flown back up to attempt a safer landing later. Aviation experts stress that a go-around is a precautionary action and not a sign of an emergency or failure.
