COONOOR: The temperatures in the picturesque hill station of Ooty and other parts of the Nilgiris have shown unprecedented dips in recent times. It is reported that the mercury levels fell below zero in Ooty. Reels and photos of snowfall in the region are going viral on social media, even surprising the locals in the region.
Considering the strange weather pattern in the Nilgiris, the forest department in the area has restricted entry for tourists in certain spots in the area, including the Sagar Dam area.
The lush green meadows of Ooty are now silver in appearance with snow. Dews are filled in parked vehicles while cottages where tourists live are enveloped in snowfall. As per weather experts, the air in Ooty is bone-chilling, with the wind factor adding to the coldness. In fear of slippery paths, the authorities have closed the Sagar Dam area for the time being. Tourists are also advised not to meander into restricted forest areas.
