
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr Aswin Mohana Chandran has donated his organs giving life to four after his death. Dr Aswin (32), a junior resident of KMCT Medical College at Mukkam in Kozhikode, will live through his fellow human beings even after his death.
The liver, heart valve and two corneas of Dr Aswin of Kollam Umayanalloor Naduvilakkara were donated. Aswin's liver was donated to a patient at KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, the heart valve to a patient at Sree Chitra Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram and corneas to a patient at Chaitanya Eye Hospital Research Institute in Thiruvananthapuram.
Health Minister Veena George thanked the family for their willingness to donate organs despite their deep grief. The accident occurred on December 20. He slipped and fell into a swimming pool while attending a friend's wedding reception at a resort in Kakkadampoil, Kozhikode. The seriously injured Aswin was admitted to KMCT Medical College in Mukkam and then to other hospitals.
He was shifted to Kollam NS Hospital for specialist treatment on December 27, but was confirmed brain dead on December 30. The family members then agreed to donate his organs. Relatives said that it was Dr Aswin's great wish that his organs would be useful to others after his death.
The organ donation procedures and coordination were completed under the leadership of K-Soto. Aswin is the son of retired teacher Mohana Chandran Nair and retired bank secretary Ammini. His sister is Arunima (UAE).
The organ was transported from Kollam to Thiruvananthapuram in an hour by creating a green corridor with the help of the police.
