DHAKA: A Hindu businessman, inhumanely set ablaze by a mob in Bangladesh, died while undergoing treatment. Khokon Chandra Das (50), who ran a medicine and mobile banking business, died in a hospital in Dhaka.
Das was attacked on Wednesday night while returning home after closing his shop. After being attacked with deadly weapons, the assailants set him on fire. Das then jumped into a nearby river in a bid to douse the fire. The residents first admitted him to a nearby hospital and then to a hospital in Dhaka for specialist treatment.
The family responded that the victim had no enmity but maintained cordial relationships with everyone. This has raised more suspicion about the death.
This is the fourth time in the past two weeks that a Hindu was attacked by a mob in Bangladesh. Deepu Chandradas was lynched on charges of blasphemy, and another one was Amrit Mondal, who the mob accused of being the head of a criminal gang. The previous day, Bajendra Biswas was shot dead by a colleague. Western countries, including the United States, have condemned the ongoing attacks on religious minorities in Bangladesh.
