PYONGYANG: North Korea carried out a show of strength after recent actions taken by the United States in Venezuela. As part of this display, North Korea tested ballistic missiles. The missiles reportedly travelled about 900 kilometres before landing in the sea. They fell into waters located between the Korean Peninsula and the Japanese coast. The missile test has drawn attention as North Korea is an ally of Venezuela.
Through the missile launch, North Korea sent a strong message that it would respond to any attempt at regime change by the United States with nuclear weapons. The North Korean government believes that US military intervention in Venezuela is also a threat to its own security. News agencies reported that leader Kim Jong Un has expressed strong concern over the US actions in Venezuela.
North Korea has said that the US intervention in Venezuela is a serious violation of international law. In a statement, the North Korean Foreign Ministry said the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by US forces was one of the most serious violations of a country’s sovereignty. North Korea’s official news agency KCNA reported that the incident once again exposed what it called the brutal and aggressive nature of the United States.
