Tamil actor Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan will not be released in theatres for the Pongal festival. Although a single bench of the Madras High Court had ordered the release of the film earlier on Friday, the situation changed later in the day. A division bench headed by the Chief Justice stayed the single bench order in the afternoon. The producers of the film have decided to approach the Supreme Court.

The single bench of Justice P.T. Asha had directed that the film be granted a U/A certificate. The court had also set aside the Censor Board’s decision to send the film to the revising committee. Challenging this order, the Central Board of Film Certification approached the division bench.

The division bench, comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan, stayed the single bench order. The stay was granted on the grounds that sufficient time was not given to the Censor Board to take a decision on the certification. The court will hear the case again on January 21st.

Meanwhile, actor Sivakarthikeyan’s film Parashakthi received censor certification on Friday and will be released on Saturday. The Censor Board had earlier issued a notice seeking the removal of 15 more scenes from the film, which is based on the anti-Hindi agitation.
